The 2021 Monologue Show

To the Cast of the 2021 Monologue Show,

To paraphrase Jurassic Park, “Monologues find a way!” Though we are barred from audiences and shared rehearsal spaces, we are undeterred in our eagerness to write, to share, and to perform. And so we shall, in one short month.

Between now and then, however, there is much work to do. This is a Monologue Show unlike any other, and it will require new coordination, communication, and understanding.  Step one is to review the cast list and rehearsal schedule. Perhaps your brain has located your name next to a time or date you cannot rehearse and is screaming in all caps “THIS IS A DISASTER.” Relax. Breathe. To get this show to work—just like every year—we have to be flexible.

So here’s what you should do: join our Google Classroom page. The join link is here.  There, you’ll find the link to the Zoom channel we’ll be using for rehearsals. We’ll use it on Monday, when we have an all-cast meeting at 2:00. At that meeting, I’ll explain how this is going to work, and how we can accommodate your particular complication. Feel free to use the Classroom to send me messages concerning your specific questions.

Also on the Classroom, you’ll find a place for you to upload your monologues. I don’t care what state they’re in, I need them no later than 2:00 PM on Sunday, February 7th. Include your name and the working title at the top. I expect these drafts will evolve over the course of our rehearsal; be prepared to receive feedback and coaching.

We will be recording and editing our shows the week of March 3-6. I will have a filming schedule in a couple of weeks. We’ll talk about this in rehearsals.

Though we are limited as a cast in terms of how we can gather, I plan to view our shows together online. While we can’t provide the thrill of a live audience, at least you can receive the immediate celebration of your fellow writers and performers. We will also find ways to distribute awards and induct Monologue Show Hall-of-Famers.

In the meantime, you should be very proud. You’re part of a special show that will exist for a brief, shining moment. You making it. It’s all yours. Neuqua needs it now, more than ever, and I can’t wait to share it with the rest of the community. Monday, 2:00, on Zoom. Let’s get to work.

Sincerely,

Mr. Rossi
